IAN SMITH
About IAN
Ian was born in Upminster, 13th September 1946 and grew up in Leigh-on-Sea, and he attended Westcliff High School for Boys. He worked for various companies from the age of 16 before buying his plastics distribution company, Pan Polymers Ltd, in 1985, where he was the Managing Director for 22 years until he retired in 2007. Dad met his darling wife Betty in Wallington in 1979. They then married in 1983 and went on to enjoy a wonderful and happy marriage together, having two children together, Robert & Helen.
He had many interests and took great pleasure in a number of things in life! A DIY enthusiast, he owned most tools possible! He loved reading thrillers, he enjoyed all sorts of food and trying new restaurants. A big petrolhead, his took great pride in the cars he owned…and there were many of them! He also enjoyed many great holidays over the years all over the world, be it together with his family, friends, or just him & his darling “Weetie” Betty.
Most of all, Dad’s greatest joy was his boating…he owned a couple of boats before having his pride and joy “Yum Sing” custom built, and from there enjoyed many cruises along the UK waterways throughout the years.
He was a true gentleman with a heart of gold, and was always the first to offer his help to anyone that needed it! He had the best sense of humour, and no words can describe how deeply he will be missed by all who loved him.

A Personal Message
A beloved husband, Dad, Granpda, Uncle, Brother-in-law and friend, Ian made a lasting impression on all who knew him. He had the kindest heart, gave the best advice, and lived life to the fullest despite any challenges thrown his way. Everyone he met was made to feel special, and so many people have their own precious memories of him – usually involving how he went above and beyond to help them in one way or another. We miss him, his hearty laugh, big bear hugs and his twinkling blue eyes every minute of every day.
