Home and Away, The Matrix star Matt Doran reveals surprising day job

He’s the former star who landed memorable roles in The Matrix and : Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

But despite his success in Hollywood, Matt Doran has revealed he still has a day job that helps pay the bills in between acting gigs.

‘I also do building work to keep myself busy and to pay the bills,’ the Australian actor, 46, told  on Wednesday.

‘It does take that pressure off,’ the father of two added.

When he’s not working on building sites, Matt takes on film and TV jobs whenever they arise, describing acting as his ‘main passion’.

‘When something comes along now, then great, I would love the opportunity, but if it is not there, no worries, I have other stuff to do and things to keep myself busy with, so it keeps me grounded,’ he said.

Matt is best known to Australian audiences as Damian Roberts on Home and Away, a role he played between 1991 and 1996.

His Hollywood break came in 1998 with the Terrence Malick-directed war drama The Thin Red Line, before he was cast as ‘Mouse’ in The Matrix the following year.

He is also known for playing ‘Elan Sleazebaggano’ in Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

He describes the three U.S. blockbusters as ‘special films’ and considers himself ‘lucky’ to have worked on them.

Closer to home, Matt has recently made appearances in TV shows like Doctor Doctor and Rake, as well as the 2019 film Danger Close: The Battle of Long Tan.

He can be seen at the Supanova Comic Con & Gaming Convention at Sydney Showground Homebush this weekend.
