Gertie's Accomplishments
The last time I hugged you was 16 March 2020 the following day the care home locked down. How I wish I had hugged you tighter and for longer and kissed you one last time. I miss you so much sometimes my chest aches and the tears don’t stop. The last day I saw you before the day you went into the hospital was Mother’s Day. I saw and spoke to you thru the window. You asked me why I wasn’t coming in and I said there was a nasty bug and I wanted to keep you safe, little did we know!! Mum our last hours together were not what I wanted for you and I will never forget them. Your funeral though beautiful was just the 7 of us and no wake, you didn’t deserve that. I think of you every day and your 1st year anniversary is on the horizon but sometimes it feels like yesterday. I will love you for all eternity and thank you for being a wonderful Mum. I think I often took you for granted and didn’t always appreciate your support and counsel, but your love and care were always unswerving and I will treasure that along with all our memories. I miss your voice and your laugh and I miss you telling me you love me and telling me to take care. X
A Personal Message
She worked hard for us all her life, we were everything to her. Mum never forgot her roots and family in Ireland, returning to Donegal often. Mum was a loving, caring and generous person would give you her last penny and would do anything for anyone. She was curious about the natural world, loved animals and flowers and plants and she loved people. Always quick to laugh. She loved Elvis. She worked for NCR for over 25 years and she worked in bars,
offices and in a shirt mill in Ireland when she left school at 14 years of age.
