About Brian James
Brian is sadly missed by all who were fortunate to know him but especially by his wife, his sons and daughters-in-law. Brian was a very kind, patient, generous and loving husband and father. He was quietly spoken, modest and unassuming and was happy to just spend time in the company of family and friends. He is remembered and missed every day and his untimely death has left a massive hole in our lives that will never be filled.

A Personal Message
Brian was born in Wolverhampton. He studied Chemistry at the University of Wales, Cardiff from where he graduated with first-class honours and a PhD. He married Wendy, who he met at University, and had two sons, David and Laurence. Brian was a popular and successful lecturer at Lancaster University for all of his academic career.
Brian became a Reader in the field of Electron Spin Resonance Spectroscopy applying the technique to many diverse subjects, latterly in trying to develop an early test for Alzheimer’s. Sadly Wendy died very suddenly in 1983 but Brian found happiness again when he married his second wife Viv four years later. He was a lifelong Walsall supporter and was a very keen football statistician, writing several football-related books and contributing to many more. He played crown green bowls and was a keen fellwalker and loved the Lake District. He also had a passion for Hornby Dublo trains.
Brian I love you so much. I will try to live the best life I can as I know that is what you would want me to do. But when I draw my last breath I know that you will be there and will take me back into your loving arms. Sending all my love until we meet again. xx
