18/01/1938 – 28/03/2020

Lambeth, London

My father came over from Ireland in 1961 to work for British Rail. My dad worked hard all his life for his family and stayed with British Rail as a Senior Rail man until his retirement. Dad worked long hours and did not have time for real hobbies. His family was very important to him and he was always there for them giving love and support. As children, we all remember him taking us for long walks along the River Thames on his days off. Upon his retirement, he took a part-time gardening job. When dad’s health deteriorated due to his dementia, the family took on his care and welfare so that he could stay at home with his family.

Bertie was the rock of our family and is greatly missed by his wife Maggie and his children Rosie, Paul and Gavin. He always had a smile on his face and his cheeky nature made us all laugh. It is so sad that we lost you in such terrible circumstances. Our hearts are broken and our home will never be the same without him.
